Nicholas Racing Predator Head Modifications

Nicholas Racing will no longer accept heads for port and polish modifications and or combusion chamber mods or valve seat locations. This is due to an accident Doug sustained in the Spring of 2006 at the Planet Sand race. Doug and Matt traved to Lousianna to compete at the week long drag races. The shut down part of the track was very rough and clod ridden. On a test pass Doug on a Predator set up for a specific class made a full pass at sub 4.5 second at 74 MPH. this was not our fastest machine but was going to be used for a class that had set rules (not an open - run anything class). The Predator carried the front wheels the complete pass (100 yards) on shut down Doug let off the throttle and the left front wheel was blown off the rim by a big dirt clod. The machine instantly went intro huge flips that were very violent. The first flip hit Doug's helment and broke it, the foot peg then caught Doug's clothing and kept Doug with the unit. So every time it hit the ground Doug was crushed by his Predator. I guess it really is a Predator as it was hunting Doug down. Doug was unconsious and had blood coming out his ears.Doug has never trusted hospitals !   The track EMT's did a good job, but made Doug sign a release or they were going to the hospital. Doug was in huge pain the rest of the week and took asprin and a nurse had a few pain killers that got him by.Doug also got back on another Predator drag bike and Matt and him raced the rest of the week. When he went home he seen his local doctor. The doctor imediatley got him to specialists. Lots of tests and doctors later it was determined that Doug destroyed 4 vertebre and severed several nerves. The nerves feed the muscles and Doug started  loosing all his muscles on the upper left side and now a few on the right side. At this time Doug can not touch his head with the left hand. It is painfull in several ways loosing the muscles and the unsupported joints.Doug tryed to keep doing as much machine work as possible as this is his passion in life (making motors go fast). Now he is forced to quit the head port and polishing as it takes both arms because Doug does it the old fashion way 100% by hand. Doug has never taught his theories and principles to any one. They are way outside the box with thinking from  any other ones ideas. They were developed through years of testing, racing, dynos, flow bench and the best actual racing. It all started back in 1977 when Doug started his speed, machine and repair shop.Doug will continue to get the Predator and Outlaw 500 performance products he designed manufactured, as they help many people build motors with power and eliminate problems in the process. Doug would like to thank all of the Predator owners through the years as our customer base is huge around the world.      ///////     Doug's statement  "I am 51 years old and have had a very long and sucessfull racing carrier. It has included a national MX final win 1988, many national drag wins, ISDE expert rider, hare scrambles at the pro leval and many wins, Midwest states  MX expert 250 class winner and lots more. I have no complaints and want to thank GOD for all my years in racing in so many venues at  high levals of competition. "

We spent a lot of time developing our head design. We went through many different configurations including big valve heads, many heads were put on the engine only to find out we had less power or a poor power band. Those heads were disposed of and we started over until finally we came up with a head that worked very well. Our heads are tested on the dyno, but the real test is at the race track.

-In ‘04 Daryl Rath won two TT Nationals in a row using motors designed by NR. NR has built the Polaris Factory Race Team motors and motors for race teams internationally.
